After an accident in the Himalayas sent his car flying off the edge of a cliff at night, author and explorer Levison Wood shares why he trusts Global Rescue.

The Lanzettas were enjoying a holiday abroad when 3-year-old Cate started suffering repeated grand mal seizures. The family needed to get Cate home to the U.S., fast, for the care she needed.

“One of the biggest fears was, we’re not at home … we’re at a beach resort in the southwest of France, and we don’t know anybody. What do we do now?”

A plane crashes to the ground in Burma, engulfed in flames. Allan Lokos and Suzanna Weiss survived the impact, but that was only the beginning of their ordeal.

Angie and her husband were taking a walk after dinner while on safari when they heard an animal noise coming from the bush. It was a Cape buffalo, one of the world’s most dangerous animals, and it was about to charge Angie.

The International Game Fish Association’s 30,000 members travel extensively outside the US on fishing excursions. The organization selected Global Rescue to provide IGFA members with access to medical advisory and evacuation services in the event of an emergency far from home.

Keith Young spent 30 years in law enforcement, including 23 in the Secret Service, before becoming a Director of Global Security in the private sector. He knows how to keep an organization and its employees safe.

A group of Middlebury College students was traveling in Egypt when what became known as the Arab Spring suddenly exploded all around them. The school’s insurance provider said the students were safely on the way home. They weren’t.

After debating a bit what to do, we said, ‘it looks like our evacuation provider isn’t doing what they were supposed to. Let’s go with Global Rescue.

Rev. Cheryl Meinschein and a group of volunteers from a Pennsylvania church arrived in Haiti on Saturday. On Tuesday, a devastating earthquake struck the island nation, crippling infrastructure and leaving the group stranded.

The important question was: Are we going to be able to get home? How are we going to be able to get home?

Baseball Hall of Famer, avid outdoorsman and world traveler Wade Boggs relies on Global Rescue for peace of mind.

A small animal veterinarian, Dr. Daniel Core is no stranger to wildlife. But when an ornery giraffe closed in on him and his wife while they walked through the bush on safari, there was nothing he could do to stop an attack.

“I go, ‘oh my God, he is going to kill Laura or me, and there is not a darn thing I can do about it.’”

A competitive freestyle skier, Eddie Gildea was training in New Zealand when he crashed during a run. He had a catastrophic knee injury, and he was thousands of miles from home.

“It wasn’t an unusual accident. It happens all the time in skiing. Just not usually when you’re 12,000 miles away.”

A simple but nagging cough turned into something much more serious for Scott Garrett while he traveled to Africa. When he started coughing up blood, he knew he was in real trouble.

“A few more days, and I might not have made it through. It was just a rapid progression of everything starting to shut down.”

A professional slopestyle skier, Jamie Crane-Mauzy was competing in Whistler, B.C., when she crashed to the ground on a jump. Her brain rattled against her skull as it whipped onto the snow, she began to convulse, and she fell into a coma.

“I said, ‘well, is my daughter still alive?’ And his response was, ‘yes – for the moment.’”

While living in Vienna with her two young sons, Kate Starrett suffered a violent allergic reaction. She couldn’t breathe, and she couldn’t find anyone who could help.

“I had a full-body rash. Unbeknownst to me, I was basically going into anaphylactic shock.”

Jon Turk is no rookie outdoorsman, having been named an Adventurer of the Year by Outside Magazine. But after a 100-day, 1,485-mile journey in northern Canada, he began to suffer kidney failure. Global Rescue and physicians at Johns Hopkins determined he needed dialysis – immediately. Global Rescue deployed an aircraft and critical care transport team to bring him out of the Arctic to a medical facility for the life-saving care he needed, and then home to Montana.

John and Sandy Searles were on safari in Ethiopia when John suffered a stroke. One satellite phone call later, and Global Rescue had dispatched a critical care transport team to help bring John to a hospital in Addis Ababa, and stay with him while a neurosurgeon worked to save his life. Once he was stabilized, Global Rescue escorted him home to the U.S.

"Without Global Rescue, I don't know how I would have my husband with me today.  If you are going to do this kind of travel at our age, it pays to take that extra step and think about getting rescued if need be."

A September 2014 hunting trip in the Canadian Rockies suddenly went very wrong for Steven Huskey when he lost his footing during a snowy descent and slipped down a mountain, tumbling over a cliff. His guide reached out to Global Rescue, and we performed a field rescue and evacuation by helicopter. While Mr. Huskey was treated at a hospital, Global Rescue coordinated with his family, medical personnel, trip outfitter and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to perform his evacuation.

Of all the places to experience shortness of breath and tightness in your chest, at 13,000 feet on a climb up Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the worst. Dr. Michele Donsky needed help immediately, and her guide called Global Rescue for a helicopter evacuation. Her condition improved at a lower altitude, and Global Rescue stayed in contact the whole way as she traveled home.

An awkward fall in the middle of a long ski run down a Swiss mountain caused traumatic injuries for Dr. Martin Kosich, a veteran skier. It would have taken two hours for someone to ski down and get help, but Global Rescue was able to get a helicopter to him in a matter of minutes, bringing him to a nearby hospital to be stabilized before taking him to his home hospital of choice in the United States.

A much-anticipated fishing trip to Kiritimati, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, went very wrong for John Bates when he became severely ill. Despite the communication challenges, Global Rescue evacuated him via private medically equipped aircraft from the remote location and brought him directly to a Hawaiian hospital for the treatment he so desperately needed.

Climate scientist Dr. John All was doing research in the Himalayas when he fell 70 feet into a crevasse. A member of the American Alpine Club, Dr. All was able to crawl out and to his tent, but he had sustained very serious injuries. He sent an SOS satellite message to call Global Rescue, and we performed a successful field rescue via rotary-wing aircraft and brought him to safety from an altitude of 19,700 feet.

"Please call Global Rescue. Broken arm, ribs, internal bleeding. Fell 70ft crevasse. Climbed out. Himlung camp 2. Please hurry."

U.S. Ski Team racer Nico Monforte was preparing for a skicross event at the Junior World Championships in Valemalenco, Italy, when he suffered a fall, breaking his leg and injuring his shoulder. Global Rescue brought him to a more suitable facility for his surgery and care, and also transported him back to his home hospital of choice in the United States.

An 80-foot fall brought veteran alpinist Steve House crashing to the ground while climbing Mount Temple in Banff National Park. A Canadian medevac team brought him down from the mountain and Global Rescue deployed a critical care transport team and brought him to the hospital. He had suffered multiple fractures and a collapsed lung, but Global Rescue was able to evacuate him to his home hospital in Oregon via medical transport jet.
